5 reasons why you should travel with Airbnb.com

Ok, I get it. When you travel, you still want your pretty hotel with a glamorous room. But don't you want to sense the local culture? Don't you want to try the local pastries or specialities in the morning instead of that breakfast buffet filled with food you eat at home anyway?

Many people don't trust Airbnb and still have prejudices. But let me tell you, these are all wrong. It is booming more than ever, and here are 5 reasons why your vacation's accommodation should be with Airbnb.

1. Get to know the local culture and lifestyle

When did you ever get the chance to meet the locals at their beautiful homes and actually see how they live? Airbnb hosts are very open, hospitable and always happy to share their wonderful stories. When I was in India a couple of years ago, I stayed for one night at an Indian family with 2 kidsIt felt so unique to be a part of their family for one day, sharing stories and eating their delicious food. Even today, we are still in contact, after all these years!

2. Airbnb ís trustworthy

This company has already hosted 400 million guests since their start in 2008. Hosts who are applying to rent their room or apartment have to meet very high quality standards and will be followed up after their approval over the years. Hosts who cannot fulfill these standards will be removed from the listing. Just to make sure that you are dealing with a proper accommodation, choose one which has at least 5 (good) reviews. I rented an Airbnb room or apartment for more than 30 times, and not a single time there was any issue—I cannot say that about my hotel bookings..

3. Travel cheaper

In my blog post "How do you travel so much?", I already compared traveling using a hotel vs. hostels or Airbnb. It is just way cheaper and if you do this consistently, you will just be able to travel more for less money!

4. Receive the best tips from a local

Who knows the city better than a local? Sure, at the hotel you might get some brochures which are eating dust already for years, but surely your Airbnb host knows way better what to do and which tourist traps to avoid. Mix these tips with your research done at home and the quality of your travel will increase—spend more time at places that áre actually worth it.

5. Not only rooms

There are various types of accommodations available at Airbnb: a shared room, private room, entire place or apartment and lately even hotel rooms. (on the other hand its biggest competitor for hotel rooms, Booking.com, has added private accommodations as well)
